How to setup your desk ergonomically in the office?

How to setup your desk ergonomically in the office?

A good posture respects the natural position of the muscular balance and joints of the body. Even when you are standing, walking, or sitting at your desk, posture is being affected, and others compromise them. In terms of sitting position at the office, DSE training allows many joints of the body to get into their neutral position. Usually, DSE assessments or, in other words, ergonomic workstation assessment helps you to avoid several posture mistakes. It could include bending, arching your back, slouching and much more. Therefore, the following steps will help you create a good ergonomic workstation, which will improve your posture.

Step 1: Adjust your Chair

Usually, the height of any desk varies between 25 – 30 inches. Therefore, try to adjust the height of the chair while making sure to place your elbows at 90 degrees. However, the person who finds it challenging to keep their feet on the floor can help themselves with a footrest.

Step 2: Adjust your monitor

One general rule while placing your monitor is to keep it within arm’s length. It allows you to read easily and helps to avoid slouching or straining your eyes. To make it easier, raise or reduce the height of the monitor until it aligns with your eye level. But what if you use two monitors? In such a case, try to place the monitor directly in front of you, and the other could be placed beside it. While if you are a laptop user, then you should prefer kickstand to raise the laptop at a proper height.

Step 3: Place your mouse and keyboard at an adjustable length

The principle should be to place your mouse and keyboard, where your hands end up on your desk. With this, your mouse should end up next to your keyboard, while avoiding your shoulder to move it. The main focus is not to reach for your tools rather, keep the required things within arm’s distance.

Step 4: Positioning your phone

Always remember to keep your phone on the non-writing side, and avoid cradling it to the shoulder. If you use a phone as a part of your work, then consider a headset. Not only it allows you to have a free hand to write, but it helps to manage things easily.
