Does your workplace offer yoga workshops to alleviate stress?

India, the home of Bollywood, bindis and bhel puri … and much more. If you've ever been to India, you'll know … and if you've never been, go!

You have probably heard of Yoga, born in India and practiced by many around the world. Yoga was first mentioned in the Rig Veda, an ancient Hindu scripture written in Vedic Sanskrit and one of four Vedas. Although there is no exact recorded date as to when these sacred texts were written, some historians have calculated Yoga to be up to ten thousand years old. As they say, old is gold …

The word ‘Yoga’ is the derivative of the Sanskrit root word ‘Yuj’ which means ‘to yoke’ or ‘to join’. Yoga is essentially the union of the individual spirit with Divine Consciousness.

Pretty deep huh …

According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, there are eight ‘angas’ or ‘limbs’ of Yoga:

1. Yama – restraints

2. Niyama – positive duties or observances

3. Asana – physical posture

4. Pranayama – control of breathing

5. Pratyahara – withdrawal of the senses

6. Dharana – concentration of the mind

7. Dhyana – contemplation and meditation

8. Samadhi – bliss or enlightenment

So, what are the benefits of practicing Yoga?

  • Can help anyone (male / female) (young / old)
  • Exercises your mind, body and spirit
  • Improves your breathing and co-ordination
  • Enhances and relaxes your mental state
  • No equipment is required (other than a mat for standing yoga)

Yoga has become more popular in recent years, leading to an emergence of unconventional Yoga forms including Goat Yoga, Aerial Yoga and even Doga!

If you are interested in a Yoga workshop for your colleagues or employees, our sister company, Relaxa UK currently organises Desk and Standing Yoga sessions.

If you would like more information on our Yoga workshops or to book a Yoga session at your workplace, drop us an email at info@relaxa.co.uk or contact us via our website.

Thank you.

Namaste.
