3 Tips to Handle Stress When Working From Home

3 Tips to Handle Stress When Working From Home

Yeah, it sounds a little bit weird when you think of stress and working from home, but contrary to popular beliefs, whether you are a temporary homeworker or a full-time remote worker, remote working packs a fair dose of stress.

Fair enough; the stress that comes with commuting for hours in traffic cannot be compared to waking up and working from your comfy bedroom, but here's why working from home can be stressful;

Too many distractions:

Working from home comes with a boatload of distractions like having to deal with your kids (if they are on holidays), your pets, and attending to visitors or receiving deliveries.

Even when you can handle all of these without any significant delay in your work, you still have distractions on the screens. You could be surfing the web doing research, and then you find something you`ve always wanted to get … if you are guilt of this, you will find yourself spending hours satisfying your cravings and forgetting the tasks at hand.

Health implications:

Working from home could mean less physical exercise, and obviously, this takes a toll on your health in the long run. On days when you go to the office, you may cycle, walk, climb a couple of stairs, but sitting all day in bed is a factor that could affect your mental health.

Tips to reduce stress working from home.

Have a designated work area:

Time and again, remote workers hear this, and with good reason too; you need to take your newfound freedom seriously. This means you need to have a workstation just like your regular office to cut back on distractions and give you a sense of responsibility.

Take a homeworker workstation assessment to make sure you are setting up correctly. You can find a few online homeworker assessments to do now.

Have a routine:

Plan your time with a schedule. Have time for lunch, for walking around as well as closing rituals, etc. The goal of this timetable is to give your structure when you work.

Socialize:

If you are working from home to get away from the drama of the world, you might want to keep in touch with a few people. Socializing allows you to put your work away for a moment and get fresh ideas or perspectives on your projects. Have a couple of meetings with your friends, family, or teammates regularly.
